For a lot of us in the Gaithersburg or Darnstown areas, summer is the time to kick back and take it easy. But if you’re toying with the idea of remodeling your kitchen, your bathroom, or even your whole house, doing it in the summertime can make a lot of sense.
Homeowners often want to remodel before a big event—and then show off their newly renovated home to friends and family. And who wouldn’t want to do that? It’s part of the fun and excitement of a remodeling project. The problem is that many homeowners don’t allow themselves enough time to get everything done before the big event. Then, in addition to the stress of planning and preparing for the event itself, they’ve got the added pressure of wondering if their remodeling project will be done on time.
Let’s face it, one of the biggest home events for a lot of us happens around the winter holidays. But remodeling schedules can get pretty packed in the November/December time frame. Add to that the uncertainty of winter weather (which can cause delays) and the pressure can really build.
The pace is a lot easier to handle in the summer months—and there’s a much smaller chance of weather-related delays. Even if you don’t start the physical work in the summer, you can begin pouring over plans and ideas while things are a little less hectic, so you’ll be ready to “pull the trigger” at the right time.
If you do decide to begin remodeling work in the summer, you’ve got another built-in advantage. There’s no way around it—remodeling can be a bit chaotic and messy at times. At j. allen smith, we pride ourselves on keeping things neat and orderly during the remodeling process, but there is always some disruption. When you remodel during the summer months, it’s a lot easier to get away from the construction chaos for a while. You can eat outside occasionally, or take a walk or a bike ride. You won’t feel trapped inside with a partially finished project.
Another advantage of summer remodeling is really noticeable if you have to knock out exterior walls or replace windows. It’s a lot more pleasant to deal with in the summer than it is when there’s a cold wind howling through the spaces in your walls!
It may be summer now, but the winter holidays will be here before you know it. Now is a great time to get a jump on remodeling and make things that much easier when they arrive!
